This test shoot, for me was to experiment with different shots to see what I wanted to photograph more of as I feel like in the test shoot I have done a variety, from shooting the various activities during the morning routine – work on the renovation of the bathroom – sorting the cat/ playing with the cats – relaxing on the evening.

From these images I feel that the photographs that occur in the living on the sofa seem to be more interesting and aesthetically pleasing, The photographs of my parents on the sofa (frames 712-714, 724-730, 884-925) remind me of an image taken by Billingham of his parents sat eating on the sofa from his series ‘Ray’s a Laugh’, I find this style of image portrays nicely the relationship between the two subjects and the images of the viewpoint being head on to be more effective than the shots taken from a angle.

I do quite like some of the images taken from outside looking through into the kitchen of my mum washing her hair in the sink, my brother shaving and my dad making a cup of tea as I feel this view is quite different, being able to see what they’re doing from the front rather than when actually in the house, the process can only be seen from behind or to the side, this was inspired by a shot Sultan took of his dad outside, however he used the window frames to compose and frame his subject. As well I quite like the photographs of where my mum is drying her hair up in the bedroom, capturing her from outside the room and also captivating her reflection in the mirror while doing so, so the viewer is able to see the action from both sides, the front and the back, which to me makes the image more engaging.

I feel that for my next shoot I want to concentrate more on capturing situations and moments of interaction between the family as I feel they would be more intriguing to see as a viewer.
