Shoots

Test Shoot

Shoot 1

Shoot 2

Overall, all three shoots was are taken and evolve around my house, mostly in the living room, other rooms and places are; kitchen, bathroom, hallway and in the garden. They consist of my immediate family members; My dad, mum, brother and cat, and in some shoots other family members became apart of the project when visiting (my nana, aunty and god mum).

I’ve photographed the simple things that happen on a daily basis within the household such as house chores (cleaning, washing, cooking etc), people getting ready, having conversation and just relaxing as this shows the true nature of the family, what they do, just like most families and homes, being relatable for the audience.

I think overall, all three shoots have gone quite well, producing some strong images that could be potentially used for the final piece, I have within each shoot taken quite a lot of images, most do look the same, for example; images of conversations as I was concentrating on capturing interesting facial expressions, body language and atmosphere during these times to portray the relationships and connections amongst the subjects involved.

During the two weeks Easter break that I’ve been at home shooting, my parents decided to renovate the bathroom, there was no sink as it had been broken during the process of taking tiles off, couldn’t have a shower only baths with caution that water didn’t get everywhere, so morning washes, shaving and brushing teeth happened either over the bath or downstairs in the kitchen sink. The dining room was full of bathroom units ready to be installed and the garden was used to hold the old bathroom till it is eventually taken to the tip. So I thought I would try and use this to my advantage during each shoot.

While photographing within the house, I utilised the natural lighting that came through in the rooms to my advantage as possible as I didn’t have any lighting equipment myself and in situations were I needed lighting or extra lighting, I used what was available to me in that room such as ambient lighting from lamps and lights. I tried to use a tripod at the beginning of shooting within the test shoot  but I found it easier to go free hand as I was then able to move around the subjects more easily and around the house.

My work has been inspired by each of the artists I have looked at and their projects of similar theme, experimenting with the way each photographer has utilised photographic elements such as viewpoints and angles, composition and lighting within the frame.
